Development of a scented paint for olfactory marketing on lighters

We work with a Spanish company with an international presence that manufactures and sells everyday products in constant contact with people. In this case, we worked on its flagship product: the lighter.

01. CHALLENGE

This product, known worldwide, has become a fashion icon. The constant pursuit of innovation led to incorporating scented paint into this type of product.

The components of the paint used by the company were assessed in order to identify those that could react and minimise their reactivity.

The proposed encapsulation had to offer high thermal resistance, since the paint solvent is removed under flame, adapting the microcapsule formulation to the paint application stage.

The goal was a functional product specialised in the consumer’s olfactory experience, featuring hemp imagery that sensorially evokes the screen printing used.

02. SOLUTION

Olfactory communication can be applied to countless products, creating added value that enhances the product’s properties.

Cannabis-scented microcapsules were developed for application in the paint, conditioned to be compatible with the medium while still meeting the established adhesion and rheological specifications.

03. TODAY

The company now has the elements it needs for a product that stands out in the market. As a result, it can build customer loyalty to the brand by associating it with specific scents that evoke feelings and emotions.
