Research and development of new functional cosmetic and parapharmaceutical textile products

Participation in a highly competitive consortium led by Punto Blanco (Indústries Valls) as specialists in encapsulation technology.

01. CHALLENGE

The range of products manufactured by Punto Blanco is known for its quality and for always bringing a high degree of innovation.

In pursuit of that innovation, the aim was to develop a cross-cutting technology enabling the controlled delivery of sustainable active substances. These substances are used to treat and prevent various problems such as hyperhidrosis, tired legs syndrome, atopic skin, lice and solar radiation.

By incorporating encapsulated active substances, textile substrates can be given new applications. These applications are related to beauty and to improving the end consumer’s well-being.

The desired result was a functional product specialised in the controlled release of active ingredients. This product had to be highly stable against external agents, which can degrade and/or alter its chemical structure, and to guarantee its fixation on textile substrates.

To this end, microparticles were designed taking into account the process of incorporating them into the fibres. To meet the physical and chemical properties required for optimal fixation of the microparticles, it was decided to incorporate them inside the yarn.

02. SOLUTION

Microencapsulation is a technology that makes it possible to confine active compounds within a matrix.

In this case, microparticles made up of aggregates of a few atoms were used; owing to their small size, they create a microenvironment in the system capable of controlling the interactions between the inside and outside of the capsule.

An encapsulation study of the various active ingredients was carried out, considering their different formulations in terms of functional quality and release capacity.

Highly resistant microparticles were developed, taking into account the demanding conditions of the yarn extrusion processes, allowing a controlled release of the active ingredient and thus guaranteeing its effectiveness over time.

The development of these microparticles has enabled the creation of functional cosmetic and parapharmaceutical fabrics.

03. TODAY

Thanks to our development, the range of specialised functional products with daily treatment for users of Punto Blanco products has been expanded, based on environmentally sustainable active ingredients.
